Caramel Apple Dip Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 8 oz package cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (we use 1/4 cup)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3/4 cup dipping caramel
  • Heath Toffee Sprinkles
  • Granny Smith Apples or Apple Crisp Apples. The Granny Smith Apples with the slight tartness helps balance the sweetness. Apple Crisp Apples are sweeter so you might want to cut the sugar down to 1/4 but they also seem to hold their color longer.
  • Bowl of water with lemon juice to keep apples fresh without browning. (optional but helpful if you are slicing large quantities of apples for a party. This will allow you cut apples ahead of time.)

Materials

  • Large Bowl
  • Mixer to combine ingredients and make it creamier.
  • Dish for the dip with spoon to scoop or small Dixie cups for individual portions.

Steps to Making Our Apple Dip Recipe

  • Let cream cheese soften to room temperature.
  • Add vanilla and brown sugar. Mix with mixer for best results until it is creamy.
  • Measure out 3/4 cup dipping caramel and warm slightly in microwave. We did it for 15 seconds and mixed. Caramel heats quickly so be very careful not to over heat.
  • Add 1/4 cup of the caramel topping to the cream cheese mixture and mix thoroughly.
  • Drizzle the rest of the caramel on top of the cream cheese mixture.
  • Sprinkle Heath English Toffee bits on top.
  • Slice apples right before serving or see our tips to reduce browning at the bottom.
  • Chill the dip and serve. Eat with sliced apples or graham crackers.

Tips and Suggestions

  • Try using homemade Vanilla paste or extract.
  • Dip pineapple spears, grapes and other fruit. Some readers have suggested a bagel or English muffin
  • We used about 1/4 cup brown sugar but most recipes say 1/2 cup
  • They sell Heath Toffee bits already in pieces but for smaller pieces place in Ziploc and smash with a wooden spoon.
  • For individual servings, serve in little Dixie cups with apple slices. Perfect for kids and to avoid double dipping!
  • Be creative: You can add peanut butter, nuts or chocolate sauce, or try using strawberry flavored cream cheese. If it is for a party, always check for allergies.
  • For topping variations, choose your favorite ice cream sprinkle! Crushed snickers, colored sprinkles, graham crackers, or granola.
  • Store in the refrigerator and then let sit about 10 minutes before serving to make it more spreadable.

Steps

Stir cream cheese, brown sugar, and vanilla extract together until sugar has dissolved and mixture is smooth. Use a mixer for creamier consistency. Sprinkle with a dash of cinnamon just before serving.
