  • Oreo Cookies
  • Sprinkles
  • Lollipop Sticks
  • 1 TBS shortening like Crisco to make chocolate smoother and easier to apply.

Materials

  • Lollipop Sticks which can be found on Amazon or craft sections in stores. I saw some really cute colored and patterned ones on Amazon. You could also use popsicle sticks
  • Line a pan with waxed paper or parchment paper
  • Stainless Steel Melter or Wilton Chocolate Melter (see our favorites below) or Small Microwave Safe Bowl
  • Spoon for mixing chocolate and covering Oreos.

How to Make Oreo Pops

  • Gently separate Oreos into halves and place on parchment lined pan. Open slowly so that the filling stays on one side.
  • Using a lollipop stick, press it into the cream filling to form a crevice.

Dip the lollipop stick in chocolate

  • Melt your chocolate. The Wilton Melter is great however we did go through two of them and decided on the stainless steel double boiler pot. This has worked well for us and we purchased a second larger one.
  • You can also melt chocolate in microwave safe container but this can be tricky if you haven't worked with chocolate before. It is much harder to keep it at a constant temperature so you have to work fast and often reheat the chocolate. Another factor is microwaves vary, so you will have to adjust the time according to your microwave. Start with 30 seconds, stir well with wooden spoon, add 15 seconds as needed. Heat until just melted. Chocolate should be warm not hot. Chocolate scorches very easily and will taste burnt if heated too long.
  • Dip lollipop stick into the chocolate and coat with a generous amount and then place the lollipop stick onto the cream in the indentation. Put the other half of the Oreo gently on top. do not press hard or it will break.
  • Let set until secure about 5 minutes. Check to see if it is set before dipping.
  • Dip entire Oreo gently into chocolate by holding onto the stick. Using a wooden spoon coat any areas that are missing chocolate. Very gently rotate the lollipop stick to remove excess or just let it drip.
  • Decorate with sprinkles of your choice right after dipping so they will stick. If you are using small candies, press those gently into the chocolate before adding sprinkles.
  • If you are bagging them, wait until they are completely dry before placing cello lollipop bags over the top. Tie with a ribbon or secure with a colored twist tie.
  • To set faster, place in the refrigerator for 15 minutes or until completely hardened.

Ideas for Toppings

  • Chocolate drizzled across the Oreo.
  • Crushed candies like Heath, Butterfinger or peppermints at Christmas.
  • Small candies like conversation hearts, candy corn, red hots.
  • We found some cake decor at Walmart in the baking section that we used below. There is also a section in the Party area that often has additional sprinkle options.
  • Small and large colored sprinkles.
  • Decorate some with faces or make them into animals for a theme.

Ideas for Displaying Your Oreo Pops

Oreo Pops with Cake Decor
We found different ways to display our Oreo Pops to match various themes. These little metal buckets come in many colors for about a $1 each at Walmart, The Dollar Tree and Michaels. For these Oreo Pops we used cake decorations to place on the center of each Oreo.

These little tubs were from the Dollar Tree and could be used for any theme. We cut a piece of styrofoam to fit the tray and make these Oreo Pops stand up.

Tips on How to Make Oreo Pops

Some recipes omit the separating of Oreos and simply insert the lollipop sticks. This would be faster but we felt the Oreos were more secure with the added step

How Long Do These Stay Fresh

Store in an airtight container in refrigerator in a single layer or place parchment paper between them if they need to be stacked. It should stay fresh up to 3 weeks. If you need to store it in the refrigerator to keep from melting, it may sweat when taken out but it will still taste great.
